Home and Away Train Crash Twist: Ray Meagher Confirms Alf Stewart’s Fate — and Teases Return of a Fan-Favorite
“Flamin’ Mongrels!” Ray Meagher in Hilarious Showdown
Home and Away legend Ray Meagher gave fans both laughs and reassurance during a wild radio appearance promoting the 2025 season finale of the Aussie soap. Meagher, who has played Alf Stewart for nearly 40 years, left listeners in stitches after threatening legal action in true Alf style when asked to sing Raye’s “Where the Hell Is My Husband?”
“The rattiest lot of dialogue, tripe I’ve ever heard,” Meagher snapped, before delivering the ultimate Alf-ism: “You’ll be hearing from my lawyers.”
The tongue-in-cheek clash happened live on-air with Kate Ritchie, who played Sally Fletcher on the show for two decades. As co-hosts “Fitzy & Wippa” played a remixed version of the song laced with Alf’s most iconic catchphrases—“What’s all that racket about?” and “Long-haired yahoos”—even Meagher cracked a grin.
Finale Confirmed: Alf Stewart Is Not On the Train
As fan anxiety grows ahead of the catastrophic train crash that headlines this year’s Home and Away finale, Meagher took the opportunity to clear the air: Alf Stewart is safe.
“He couldn’t make that trip,” he quipped when asked if Alf was one of the crash victims. While that means Alf is not among the characters endangered in the disaster, Meagher confirmed that many “very key characters” are involved—and that one character will die in the finale airing Wednesday night.
“I’ve heard a lot of people describe Home and Away as a train crash,” Meagher joked, “but this time, it’s absolutely amazing. It’s so well done.”
Could Sally Fletcher Be Coming Home?
Meagher also fueled Home and Away fans’ dreams by teasing a potential return for Kate Ritchie’s iconic character Sally Fletcher. While Ritchie tried to downplay the possibility, her co-hosts pointed out she’s never actually said no. That was all Meagher needed.
“I’ve never been to the producers about a storyline for me,” he said, “but I’d make an exception in Kate’s case and go and have a yarn to them.”
The last time Sally appeared on the show was in 2013, marking a ten-year absence. With Home and Away looking toward major legacy moments in 2026, a Sally comeback might be more than just fan wishful thinking.
All Eyes on the Train Wreck
As the 2025 finale looms, fans are bracing for impact. The train crash is expected to kill at least one character, but with Alf safe and Sally potentially returning, the emotional stakes couldn’t be higher.
Who will make it out alive? Who won’t? And will this moment reshape Summer Bay forever?
