HOT NEWS!!! 3 Yellowstone Stars Returning For Kayce Dutton’s New Spinoff Series

Three returning stars have been added to the Yellowstone spinoff Y: Marshals. Luke Grimes is already confirmed to be reprising his role as Kayce Dutton in the spinoff. Y: Marshals will follow Kayce Dutton, the youngest Dutton son, as he joins the U.S. Marshals in Montana, leaving his ranching days in the past.

Per Deadline, Gil Birmingham, Brecken Merrill, and Mo Brings Plenty are now joining the cast of Y: Marshals as well, and will be reprising their previous roles in the hit franchise. Merrill will be reprising his role as Tate Dutton, the son of Kayce, as Birmingham will be reprising his role as Thomas Rainwater, and Mo Brings Plenty reprising the role of Mo.

As for the newbies, the following three series regulars have also joined the cast as U.S. Marshals: Arielle Kebbel (Rescue: HI-Surf) as Belle, Ash Santos (Mayor of Kingstown) as Andrea and Tatanka Means (Reservation Dogs) as Miles. Additionally, Brett Cullen (Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty) will recur as Harry Gifford, who heads up the U.S. Marshals in Montana. The Yellowstone spinoff follows Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes), who leaves ranching life behind to join an elite unit of U.S. Marshals, “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring range justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must balance family, duty and the high psychological cost that comes with serving as the last line of defense in the region’s war on violence,” reads the show’s official logline. As previously reported, Logan Marshall Green (And Just Like That…) will play Pete Calvin, one of Kayce’s friends from his days in the military.

What This Update Means for Y: Marshals

With the show choosing to bring back characters from Yellowstone, the characters will bring a sense of familiarity to the audience watching. Even though Y: Marshals is not the same series, there will be a lot about the two Yellowstone shows that are similar. Y: Marshals is still taking place in Montana, where Yellowstone took place, making it possible to see even more familiar faces in the future. It won’t be so difficult to write other cast members from Yellowstone into the show and create storylines for them, since they all still live in the same state and can easily cross paths.

One member of the Yellowstone cast who will not be reprising their role is Kelsey Asbille, who portrayed Tate’s mother, and Kayce’s wife. Earlier speculation hinted that her non-appearance would be addressed, and writer Spencer Hudnut has now offered additional insight into Kayce’s circumstances at the start of Marshals.

“He is a cowboy, but he is also a Navy Seal, so he has this incredible toolkit of skills to put to the test,” he revealed during a chat with Entertainment Weekly. “He’s a guy who excels running into the fire. As we saw all through Yellowstone, he is really the essence of being a protector, so it felt very natural for him to end up in a position like this where he’s putting others first.”

Y: Marshals is set to commence a year after the finale, indicating that significant changes are on the horizon. Hudnut added: “Protecting the ranch and all he got up to in Yellowstone kept him very busy. This downtime that he’s had between the end of that show and the start of ours has forced him to confront some of his demons and really focus on being a father. He’s a changed man.”

While Kayce’s role as a father will remain central in Y: Marshals, there’s no reference to him grappling with his duties as a husband. The writer underscored that the rancher has had more chances to be at home during the 12-month interval, once again highlighting the primacy of fatherhood over his relationship with Monica.

“I think Kayce primarily always saw himself as a provider and a protector to his son, but maybe left the parenting to his wife,” he added. “But as he’s had a little more time on the home front, one of the things we get to see is the bond between Kayce and his son and also just seeing Kayce beginning to see a lot more of himself in his son as well.”

With Monica now potentially absent from their lives, Kayce’s relationship with Tate has grown increasingly solid, though it’s bound to face fresh trials as his demanding new role sees him tackling perilous assignments throughout Montana. All signs suggest heartbreak lies ahead for Kayce, yet viewers must wait for the forthcoming Yellowstone spin-off to uncover the true fate that awaits.
