Is Yellowstone Spinoff 6666 Still Happening? Here’s Everything We Know
The Yellowstone universe has exploded over the past few years — from 1883 and 1923 to Y: Marshals and the upcoming Beth and Rip series. But one project fans keep asking about has gone strangely quiet: Taylor Sheridan’s long-awaited spinoff, 6666.
First announced in early 2021, 6666 (pronounced Four Sixes) was meant to follow Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson White) and life on the historic Texas ranch where he trained to become a true cowboy. Now, years later, with Yellowstone wrapped and multiple prequels announced, fans are wondering — is 6666 still happening?
Is 6666 Still in the Works?
As of now, Paramount has not released an official update confirming whether 6666 remains in development. The last solid report came back in 2022, when it was announced the spinoff would air on Paramount Network rather than Paramount+, signaling a potential shift in strategy.
Since then, the network and creator Taylor Sheridan have stayed silent. But according to Yellowstone producer Christina Voros, long gaps between updates are not unusual in Sheridan’s world.
“We don’t know until we get the scripts what the story is,” she told TV Insider. “When it’s time to tell the story, there’ll be a script in my inbox. Taylor works in his own time.”
Voros added that Sheridan keeps creative decisions tightly guarded — even for insiders. “He’s closed a lot of doors this season,” she explained of Yellowstone’s finale. “But he’s left some open, and some I can’t tell if they’re locked or not yet.”
In short: 6666 isn’t dead, but it’s very much on Taylor Sheridan time.
What Will 6666 Be About?
Paramount’s original synopsis paints 6666 as a sweeping, gritty western rooted in real Texas history:
“Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing…”
It promises a story set in a land where survival is earned — a reflection of the real-life Four Sixes Ranch, which Sheridan himself now owns. The series is expected to capture the harsh beauty, danger, and independence that define the modern cowboy way of life.
Who Could Star in 6666?
While no official cast has been confirmed, it’s widely assumed Jefferson White would reprise his role as Jimmy Hurdstrom, the fan-favorite ranch hand who grew from fumbling greenhorn to seasoned cowboy under John Dutton’s watch.
Jimmy’s storyline on Yellowstone Season 4 already felt like a backdoor pilot for 6666. His journey to Texas, his mentorship under tough but fair ranchers, and his romance with Emily (Kathryn Kelly) all set the stage for a new chapter.
In Yellowstone’s final season (Season 5, Part 2), Jimmy and Emily returned to Montana before settling once more at the Four Sixes — a move that practically writes the first act of a potential spinoff.
Other Yellowstone characters like Teeter (Jen Landon), who took a job at the Four Sixes in the finale, could also appear, as could Travis Wheatly, played by Sheridan himself.
Why the Delay?
The biggest reason for the hold-up appears to be Taylor Sheridan’s packed creative schedule. Since announcing 6666, he’s written and produced a wave of hit series, including 1883, 1923, Special Ops: Lioness, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and the upcoming 1944 and The Madison.
Sheridan’s approach is famously hands-on — he writes nearly every script himself — which often leads to long gaps between projects.
That, combined with Paramount’s internal restructuring and the Yellowstone finale delays, has likely pushed 6666 further down the production pipeline.

Will 6666 Still Happen?
Despite the silence, signs point to “yes.” Sheridan continues to film and write at the real Four Sixes Ranch in Texas, which he purchased in 2022. Jefferson White’s return to the location in summer 2024 fueled renewed speculation that filming could resume once Sheridan completes his current slate.
For fans, that’s reason enough to hold out hope.
6666 represents everything Sheridan’s western universe stands for — rugged landscapes, moral complexity, and the eternal fight to preserve a way of life that refuses to fade.
Until then, the gates of the Four Sixes remain closed, waiting for the story that will finally bring them back to life.
