Kayce Dutton Returns! First Look at Y: Marshals Promises Grit, Justice, and a Dark New Beginning

A New Chapter for a Yellowstone Legend

Kayce Dutton is back in the saddle, and this time, he isn’t protecting the Yellowstone Ranch — he’s protecting the law. CBS has released the first teaser trailer for Y: Marshals, the highly anticipated Yellowstone spinoff arriving in 2026. Luke Grimes returns as Kayce, a character fans have followed through war, loss, and impossible family loyalty. Now, he is starting over in the most dangerous way possible.

Y: Marshals picks up after the events of the Yellowstone finale, which ended with Kayce and Beth agreeing to sell the ranch to the Broken Rock Reservation, except for a small section of land for Kayce, Monica, and Tate. Instead of settling into a quiet ranching life, Kayce joins the U.S. Marshals, stepping right back into a world of violence, high-stakes manhunts, and moral compromise.

The spinoff is penned by SEAL Team writer Spencer Hudnut and includes returning stars Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater, Moses Brings Plenty as Mo, and Brecken Merrill as Tate. New characters join the mix, setting the stage for power struggles across Montana.First Look At “Y: Marshals”: The Kayce Dutton Spinoff Promises Grit, Justice, And A New Beginning

A Trailer Packed With Tension and Western Grit

The teaser shows Kayce on horseback alongside fellow Marshals as they track a moving train, hinting at major action set pieces. Over the sweeping Montana landscape, Kayce’s voiceover delivers the heart of the story: he wants a new beginning.

It’s a mission driven by grief. John Dutton’s death hangs over Kayce, and the fall of the ranch may have opened the floodgates to crime on the land his family once controlled. For a man who has spent years torn between peace and violence, joining the Marshals might be the only way he knows to stay alive and keep Montana safe.Luke Grimes returns as Yellowstone's Kayce Dutton in ET's exclusive first look at spinoff 'Y: Marshals,' coming to CBS in 2026.

Why Kayce Chooses the Badge Over the Brand

Kayce once promised a quieter life with Monica and Tate, but the teaser suggests unfinished battles are pulling him away again. Two possibilities define his decision:

  • He cannot escape his past. His father’s death and the family’s bloody legacy still haunt him.

  • Montana needs him more than he needs the land. With the ranch dissolved, new criminal forces could be rising, and Kayce won’t stand by and watch chaos spread.

What Comes Next

The trailer makes one thing clear: this is not a slower, sunnier sequel. It is a story about a man trying to rebuild his soul while hunting those determined to destroy the West. For longtime Yellowstone fans, Y: Marshals may be Kayce Dutton’s most dangerous ride yet.
