“I’m not going to continue engaging in this,” Meri says in PEOPLE’s exclusive look at Kody’s latest stop on his apology tour

Meri Brown is the third stop on Kody Brown’s apology tour, and it doesn’t seem to be off to a great start.

PEOPLE has an exclusive look at the Dec. 28 episode of Sister Wives, where Kody sits down with Meri in hopes of putting any animosity behind them. However, things go in a different direction almost instantly when Kody brings up a touchy topic.

“I want you, more than anything, to just be able to move on,” he tells Meri, who insists she has. “The way your friends talk about me, that doesn’t seem like it,” Kody continues. “But I wanted you to be able to do that.”

Meri quickly interrupts her ex, telling him, “You can stop right there.”

As she holds her hand up toward him, Kody says that he doesn’t want to fight, but Meri snaps back.

“Well, then don’t bring up my friends and what they say,” she declares. “Because guess what?  I’m going to tell you this, Kody…”

Trying to redirect the conversation, Kody claims whatever Meri is about to say “will just ruin” his intentions of meeting up with her. “I’m just here to apologize, Meri, not to argue with you,” he adds.

“No. I’m going to tell you this, Kody. I’m going to tell you,” she insists. “You’re not going to shut me down anymore.”

In his confessional, Kody acknowledges his regret about taking a dig at Meri’s friends when he was trying to mend the relationship.

“My first mistake was ever saying that she did anything wrong,” he says. “I don’t need to win an argument and I don’t need validation here. And yet, I’m triggering. And I’m like, ‘Dude, just just stay on point. Just apologize again.’”

“It’s hard to hate a person who said I’m sorry 100 times,” he continues.

In her own confessional, Meri doesn’t seem to be on the same page, noting that she has no interest in continuing her discussion with Kody under these circumstances.

“At this point in the conversation, I thought, if this is how this is going to be, I’m not going to continue engaging in this,” she admits. “If it gets any more than this, I’m out. I’m going to walk away.”

At the end of last week’s episode, Meri revealed to friends Jenn and Amber that she was going to be seeing Kody the next day. When they raised red flags about Kody’s authenticity, Meri was in agreement. She said that she lost her trust in him after several failed attempts to be civil and after he previously criticized both her and her friends.

“If you go on the attack on me or my best friend, then I will definitely go on the attack back,” Meri said, later revealing her strategy for the one-on-one meeting: “I’m going to go into this conversation with Kody with very strong boundaries. His energy f—- with my energy. It just does.”
