Taylor Sheridan’s New Film F.A.S.T. Draws ‘Sicario’ Comparisons as Cast Calls Production “Demanding”
Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan is officially returning to the big screen, and his next project is already shaping up to be one of his most ambitious yet. The upcoming action thriller, titled F.A.S.T., is being billed as Sheridan’s spiritual successor to Sicario — and according to its stars, working on it has been as intense as fans would expect.
A High-Stakes Crime Thriller in the Sheridan Tradition
Over the summer, reports surfaced that Sheridan had penned the screenplay for F.A.S.T., a gritty new film centered on drug trafficking and border warfare — themes that echo his critically acclaimed Sicario script.
The movie stars Brandon Sklenar (1923), Sam Claflin, LaKeith Stanfield, and Jason Clarke. Longtime Sheridan collaborator Ben Richardson — who has served as cinematographer on Yellowstone and Mayor of Kingstown — is directing the feature from Sheridan’s script, ensuring it maintains the same raw, visual intensity that defines his television empire.
Sam Claflin: “It’s Been a Joy, But Demanding”
In an exclusive interview with Collider, Sam Claflin revealed that F.A.S.T. has pushed him far beyond his comfort zone as an actor.
“I can’t speak too much about F.A.S.T. yet, but for me, it’s been a joy,” he said. “It’s a very, very different character to any of the roles I’ve done before. I’m playing a Southern American hillbilly, almost. It’s a departure for me, and people will see a very different side of me.”
While Claflin kept details under wraps, insiders describe the production as “demanding,” both physically and emotionally — a hallmark of Sheridan’s intense, character-driven storytelling.
Sheridan’s Empire Keeps Expanding
Even with F.A.S.T. in development, Taylor Sheridan continues to dominate television. The Tulsa King Season 3 premiere launched last month, while Mayor of Kingstown returns for Season 4 in a few weeks. Meanwhile, Landman Season 2 is set to premiere on November 16, and Sheridan has already begun early work on Lioness Season 3.
Since opening his own Texas-based production studio, Sheridan has built a sprawling creative empire, producing an unmatched lineup of shows under the Paramount banner. His continued success on both the big and small screens has cemented him as one of Hollywood’s most prolific — and powerful — storytellers.
What to Expect from F.A.S.T.
Though plot specifics remain tightly under wraps, F.A.S.T. is rumored to explore the shadowy intersection of law enforcement and cartel influence, set against the violent backdrop of America’s southern border. With its ensemble cast and Sheridan’s signature tension, the film could serve as his most gripping theatrical project since Wind River.
Production is currently underway, with a release date yet to be announced — but one thing’s clear: Sheridan’s brand of Western grit is heading back to cinemas, and the results promise to be explosive.
