“That Would Be Awesome”: Billy Bob Thornton Eyes Faith Hill and Tim McGraw for Landman Cameo
Could the 1883 stars join Landman Season 3? Here’s what we know so far
Sheridan’s Expanding Empire
With Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, and Landman, Taylor Sheridan has built more than a franchise — he’s built a storytelling universe. Naturally, fans are wondering when these worlds might start to collide. And now, Landman star Billy Bob Thornton is stoking that excitement with a possible crossover dream.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the 2025 CMA Awards, Thornton revealed that he’d love to welcome Tim McGraw and Faith Hill — who starred as James and Margaret Dutton in 1883 — into the Landman world.
“I’d Love to Have Them”
When asked about the possibility of working with McGraw and Hill again, Thornton didn’t hesitate:
“That would be awesome if they do,” he said, clearly thrilled by the idea.
But he was also quick to acknowledge who’s really in charge:
“You know, Taylor, he kind of picks and chooses whatever he wants for the show.”
Thornton added that while he doesn’t have much say in the writers’ room, he’d happily advocate for their return:
“Maybe we’ll bring their names up and see what happens.”
Off-Screen Friendships Could Fuel On-Screen Fire
Thornton isn’t just speculating. According to Landman co-star Mark Collie, there’s still a strong bond between Sheridan and the 1883 couple:
“Every time Tim and Faith are playing in Fort Worth, they go to see him.”
It’s clear the door is open — even if it’s just a crack. And given the powerful performances McGraw and Hill delivered in 1883, there’s no doubt fans would welcome a return, even in brand-new roles.
A Full-Circle Reunion?
Thornton himself had a cameo in 1883 as legendary lawman Jim Courtright. If McGraw and Hill returned the favor, it would mark a full-circle moment — and a clever Easter egg for fans of Sheridan’s universe.
Because Landman is set in present day, there’s no chance McGraw and Hill could reprise their original roles as the Dutton family founders. But they could easily appear as new characters — oil executives, Texas ranchers, or even rivals to Thornton’s Tommy Norris.
Whether it’s a single-episode cameo or a small arc, the idea of the 1883 trio reuniting on modern turf has major appeal.
What’s Next for Landman and McGraw?
Landman is currently airing Season 2, with the explosive finale set for January 18, 2026. The drama continues to pull strong ratings for Paramount, especially with Thornton’s commanding lead performance.
As for McGraw, he’s preparing to launch his Las Vegas residency at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum Theater. He’s stepping in after Dolly Parton’s unexpected withdrawal due to health concerns.
