Yellowstone Creator’s Hit Series Landman Is Back — But Its Future Isn’t Guaranteed
Landman Charges Into Season 2 After Yellowstone’s End
Almost a year after Yellowstone ended its five-season run, creator Taylor Sheridan still dominates TV. The Emmy-nominated producer has built an empire of modern Western dramas and high-stakes thrillers, and one of his biggest streaming wins has just returned: Landman Season 2.
The new episodes began streaming on November 16 on Paramount+, with weekly installments every Sunday at 3 a.m. ET. The 10-episode season will conclude on January 18.
Inspired by the 2019 podcast Boomtown, Landman stars Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris, a landman working the West Texas oil fields while his personal and professional pressures mount. This season pushes Tommy closer than ever to the edge.
One of Paramount+’s Top Performers
When Landman premiered in 2024, critics and audiences embraced it. Many called it one of Paramount+’s strongest originals, praising the cast, the tension, and Sheridan’s grounded portrayal of the modern oil industry.
Early reactions show Season 2 holding that momentum. Reviews note that the new episodes match the show’s 78% Rotten Tomatoes critic score from last year. Esquire said the series “proves its worth” and remains “one of Sheridan’s most promising shows yet.” JoBlo praised Season 2 for leaning into what already worked without breaking the formula.
Viewership numbers for the season have not yet been released, but the series shot back into the Paramount+ Top 10, currently ranked No. 2 in the U.S. behind South Park, and No. 3 worldwide, according to FlixPatrol.
Sheridan’s Move to NBCUniversal Raises Questions
Despite the strong return, fans are understandably anxious. Sheridan is set to leave Paramount for NBCUniversal in a new deal, raising concerns about Landman’s long-term future.
The good news: Sheridan’s NBC contract does not begin until 2029. That leaves several years for ongoing work at Paramount, including writing and producing Landman. The show’s rights remain with Paramount, so the series will not automatically move or end when Sheridan changes studios.
Co-creator and showrunner Christian Wallace told ScreenRant that the team plans to continue as usual:
“Nothing at all has changed… we’re just going to keep doing exactly what we’ve been doing.”
Actor Mark Collie added that he expects the show to “keep on rocking,” and believes Sheridan will remain connected “at some level.”
Will There Be a Season 3?
Paramount has not yet renewed Landman for Season 3, but its early Season 2 performance and strong creative reviews make renewal likely. For now, fans can enjoy weekly episodes and hope the Texas oil fields keep pumping out more drama.
