Yellowstone’s Hotly Anticipated Beth and Rip Spin-Off Adds Hollywood Legend to Cast
Annette Bening Saddles Up for The Dutton Ranch
The Yellowstone universe just got even bigger — and a whole lot more star-studded. Oscar-nominated actress Annette Bening has officially joined the cast of the upcoming Beth and Rip spin-off, currently titled The Dutton Ranch.
According to Deadline, Bening, 67, will play Beulah Jackson, “a powerful, cunning, and charming head of a major ranch in Texas.” Her character is expected to play a central role in the new drama, bringing both sophistication and strength to Taylor Sheridan’s ever-expanding Western empire.
With five Academy Award nominations — for The Grifters, American Beauty, Being Julia, The Kids Are All Right, and Nyad — Bening’s addition marks one of the biggest casting coups in the Yellowstone franchise so far.
Life After John Dutton
While few plot details have been confirmed, The Dutton Ranch is said to take place after the death of John Dutton (Kevin Costner) and the sale of the Dutton estate — marking a new chapter for Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser).
The spin-off will reportedly follow the couple as they build a life of their own, running a 7,000-acre ranch and raising Carter (Finn Little), the orphaned teen they took under their wing in the original series.
Deadline described the setting as “a testament to the peace they sought, fought for, and nearly died for.” But with rival ranchers, high stakes, and family loyalty on the line, peace may be hard to maintain.
A Franchise Power Couple Returns
Fans of Yellowstone know that Beth and Rip’s fiery relationship was the emotional core of the main series. Their story — equal parts love, chaos, and survival — gave the show its edge.
With Reilly and Hauser returning to lead, The Dutton Ranch promises to carry that same energy forward. The new series is expected to delve deeper into their marriage, exploring how two fiercely independent souls build a legacy of their own — away from John Dutton’s shadow but still bound by his legacy.
The Expanding Duttonverse
The Dutton Ranch joins a growing lineup of Yellowstone spin-offs from Taylor Sheridan and Paramount+. Alongside the hit prequels 1883 and 1923, Sheridan is also developing:
-
Y: Marshals, starring Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, following his journey as a U.S. Marshal.
-
The Madison, a new drama rumored to star Michelle Pfeiffer, focusing on a New York family starting over in Montana after the events of Yellowstone.
Each series is designed to explore new corners of Sheridan’s modern Western world, bringing together big names, bigger landscapes, and the moral complexity that made Yellowstone a global phenomenon.
A New Era for the Dutton Legacy
With Bening joining Reilly, Hauser, and Finn Little, The Dutton Ranch is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated TV events of 2026. Combining the emotional depth of Yellowstone with the cinematic scale of its prequels, the series promises to honor the original while blazing its own trail.
For Beth and Rip fans — and Western lovers everywhere — the Dutton legacy is far from over.
