Speaking to TV Insider, Peter Porte admitted he was thrilled to receive the call back to DAYS. He called it a “legacy” and couldn’t hide his emotions when mentioning the show’s 60th anniversary. But behind that excitement lies a lingering sense of incompleteness from his previous departure.

According to Porte, Dimitri never had a proper ending. The character was “frozen” by a prison sentence, instead of a farewell. And that’s what made him believe the story wasn’t over. When the dialogue continued to mention Dimitri in the script, Porte understood that Salem never truly closed the door on this character.

The call back came with a detail that couldn’t be more shocking: Dimitri was going to sabotage Leo’s wedding. For Porte, it was the perfect, yet cruelest, choice.

A Dimitri Frozen in the Past

On screen, Dimitri doesn’t appear confident or victorious. He arrives completely out of sync with the present. While Leo has built a new life with Javi, Dimitri remains stuck in the moment of his separation from Salem, believing that simply returning will make everything go back to normal.

Peter Porte portrays Dimitri as someone who survived thanks to the belief that Leo was still waiting for him. But when faced with reality, that belief crumbles. Not because Leo was cruel, but because time stands still for no one.
